On Monday 15 June MAC TEAM GREEN was privileged to go to the Lake Wanaka Centre for the ReGeneration Workshop. This workshop was about educating our generation about climate change and how we can stop it. We discussed the good things, problems, causes and possible solutions from our community to global in the environment.
In the morning we had heaps of fun thanks to Te Rawhitiroa Bosch and Jinty McTavish who were the Enviroschools representatives. Jinty McTavish is also a film-maker and her latest film is called ‘lessons from a melting icecap’. It follows the journey of 3 Otago Girls high school students to Greenland. It is about global environmental issues and is targeted at a secondary school audience. Jinty and Te Rawhitoroa helped us share ideas, make timelines, draw visions of the future and list all the great things about Wanaka.
After lunch, we had an opportunity to share ideas and action plans with the guests which included Sustainable Wanaka, Wanaka Wastebusters, the chairman of the Community Board, Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust and Kahu Youth. We wrapped up the day with a delicious afternoon tea and headed home knowing that this was the start of something great.
